KYIV—19 June 2024—Ukrainian Action, the US nonprofit organization and UK charity dedicated to supporting the survival and recovery of Ukraine, signed a memorandum of understanding with Ukraine’s Ministry of Veteran Affairs for collaboration on the Ukrainian Action Heroes rehabilitation program for Ukrainian war veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as a result of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Veteran Affairs in Kyiv between Deputy Minister Maksym Kushnir, and Ukrainian Action (UA) co-founder and CEO Jeffrey Hartman.

The Ukrainian Action Heroes (UAH) program offers two weeks in Ukraine’s Carpathian Mountains, where veterans receive instruction in skiing and snowboarding. Veterans receive psychological support through group therapy and mindfulness activities.

The first three cohorts totaled 19 veterans who attended the program in February and March. Four more cohorts are planned for the summer months and will focus on hiking and outdoor mountain sports.

During today's meeting, Ukrainian Action and the Ministry of Veteran Affairs agreed on the details of cooperation. The Ministry of Veterans Affairs will recommend veterans and certified psychologists to the program and assist with organizational issues. Together, UA and the Ministry will promote the involvement of best practices in the psychological and physical rehabilitation of war veterans.

“We are very pleased to collaborate with the Ministry, which marks another step in the growth of our Ukrainian Action Heroes program and enhances our ability to assist Ukraine with addressing the huge need for rehabilitation for the brave men and women who have been defending the country from external aggression,” proclaimed Mr Hartman.

"Sports and physical activity are one of the most effective tools for returning our defenders to a healthy and fulfilling life. This is one of the main areas of work of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs team. Therefore, we are happy to cooperate with your organization in the direction of psychological and physical rehabilitation of veterans. Thank you for your contribution to an extremely important cause!", Deputy Minister Maksym Kushnir stressed.
