LONDON—22 June 2026—Ukrainian Action, the UK charity and US nonprofit organisation dedicated to supporting the survival and recovery of Ukraine, has delivered its 500th vehicle to the country, marking a significant milestone in more than four years of continuous humanitarian support.
The landmark vehicle was delivered as part of the charity’s latest humanitarian aid convoy from the United Kingdom. Like hundreds of vehicles before it, it will be used to support emergency response, medical evacuations, humanitarian aid distribution and essential community services in regions affected by Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine.
Before departing London, the 500th vehicle, a black Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck with a blue and yellow racing stripe resembling the Ukrainian flag, was given a special send-off outside the Houses of Parliament, where volunteers, supporters and parliamentarians gathered to mark the milestone. The event was attended by Ukrainian Action's patron, Sir Iain Duncan Smith MP, alongside other Members of Parliament who have supported the charity's work since the beginning of the war. The gathering recognised the dedication of the volunteers and donors who have made hundreds of humanitarian aid convoys possible, while reaffirming the United Kingdom's enduring solidarity with the people of Ukraine.
The 500th vehicle was driven to Ukraine by Stephan van Niekerk, a UK veteran, bilateral amputee and Afghanistan veteran whose personal journey has become a powerful example of resilience and service. Having faced life-changing injuries and overcome extraordinary challenges, van Niekerk joined the landmark convoy because he believes that supporting people through their most difficult moments is a responsibility, not a choice.
“I know what it feels like when everything falls apart and someone shows up anyway, even if it’s only to play a small part,” said van Niekerk. “That’s why I’m here.”
His participation in the convoy reflects the spirit that has powered Ukrainian Action since its founding: ordinary people from all walks of life stepping forward to provide practical support to those facing extraordinary hardship. As the driver of the charity’s 500th vehicle, van Niekerk carried not only a truck and its humanitarian cargo, but also a message of solidarity from volunteers and supporters across the United Kingdom.
“Reaching 500 vehicles is an important milestone for our team, but our focus has never been on the numbers alone,” said Jeffrey Hartman, Ukrainian Action co-founder and CEO. “Every vehicle we deliver represents lives protected, communities supported and practical help reaching people who need it most. What matters is ensuring that each vehicle is delivered directly to trusted partners and fills a specific need identified on the ground in Ukraine. More than the number of vehicles, I am most proud of the huge volunteer community and network that we have created. We have mobilised over 600 volunteer drivers, and I’m humbled that we are able to provide a pathway for selfless people to support Ukraine.”
Founded in the days following Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022, Ukrainian Action has grown from a grassroots volunteer effort into one of the UK’s most active vehicle-delivery charities supporting Ukraine. Convoys depart regularly from the UK, driven by volunteers who transport vehicles packed with humanitarian and medical supplies across Europe and into Ukraine.
The charity’s vehicle fleet has included pickup trucks, ambulances, SUVs, vans and specialist support vehicles. Many have gone on to serve emergency workers, medical teams, local authorities, humanitarian organisations and communities rebuilding after attacks on civilian infrastructure.
In addition to vehicle deliveries, Ukrainian Action has supplied hundreds of pallets of humanitarian aid, including medical equipment, protective clothing, educational materials, power generators and reconstruction supplies. The organisation has also expanded its work to include healthcare and veteran rehabilitation initiatives supporting Ukraine’s long-term recovery.
A key element of Ukrainian Action’s approach is its direct-delivery model. Leveraging relationships developed over decades by Hartman and Ukrainian colleagues, the organisation works closely with trusted local partners to identify needs and ensure aid reaches intended beneficiaries without intermediaries.
“Our volunteers, donors and supporters have made this achievement possible,” Hartman added. “From those who donate funds, vehicles and supplies, to those who take time away from their families to drive thousands of miles in our convoys, this milestone belongs to all of them. We remain committed to standing with Ukraine for as long as support is needed.”
As Ukrainian Action celebrates the delivery of its 500th vehicle, preparations are already underway for future convoys, with volunteers continuing to source vehicles and humanitarian supplies for communities across Ukraine.
